MITEQ is a multi-million dollar company designing and manufacturing a complete line of high performance components and subsystems. MITEQ's products are used in satellite and ground based communication systems, missile guidance devices, military electronic countermeasures, radar warning and surveillance systems, land, sea, and airborne radar, air traffic control radar and other applications.

The company has been using Coolit to minimize prototype building and testing, reduce cost and time to market and to increase thermal performance and reliability of its products. In this project a rack mounted SSPA (Solid State Power Amplifier) was designed using Coolit. Correlation between the Coolit thermal model and actual data obtained from the physical prototype has been excellent. Measured results have been within 5% of what the Coolit model has predicted.

Prior to using Coolit, most of MITEQ's thermal analysis consisted of a simple air flow calculation based upon total waste heat and allowable temperature rise. That result would then be degraded by approximately 30% to account for system backpressure and other "unknowns". For very complicated thermal cases MITEQ would contract with an outside consultant to do a thermal analysis. This was always a very expensive undertaking. In addition, multiple prototypes would be fabricated and an iterative process of taking thermal data, making physical design changes and then taking more data would occur.

Needless to say, this was an expensive and time-consuming process. Coolit has allowed MITEQ to do all the thermal analysis in house and bypass the prototyping phase almost completely.
